A client sent us a screenshot from an episode of the HBO series Succession — a faux bamboo four-poster standing in the background of a scene — and asked whether we could build something like it.

The bed in the photograph is a late 19th century antique, so there were no plans to work from. We drew up shop drawings from the image, worked out the proportions, adjusted the sizing to her room, and built it in Spanish cedar. The rings and nodes on the posts are turned on the lathe by hand.

Most of what we do starts this way. A photograph, a sketch, a piece someone saw somewhere — we draw it up, work through the details with the client, and build it. We liked how this one came out, so we kept the design and now offer it as a standard bed.

Is this the actual bed from the show?
It is not. This is our own reproduction of a late 19th century antique faux bamboo bed. A very similar piece appears in the series, and we build each one to order in Spanish cedar or Honduran mahogany.
