The Gloucester Fishing Schooners were perhaps the last working sailboats on the American East Coast to survive the advent of steam-powered engines. Superbly designed (even beyond the turn-of-the-century) they are known for their economy, speed, and seaworthiness. Crews would sail from the Massachusetts coast, spend several days dory-fishing for Cod and Halibut on the Grand Banks, then dash to the market with a load of fresh fish on ice.
The schooner rig allowed these boats to be sailed by a very small crew, and their ability to make port safely in the grip of a blistering Nor’easter winter storm is legendary.
This classical half-model of a Gloucester Fishing Schooner, is accurately scaled to the original design of this well-known ship. The solid-wood model (laminated with contrasting woods) has an overall length of 48″, and includes finely carved details. All our half-hull models are mounted on wide boards for wall display, and are normally supplied finished in part paint / part varnish, or can be customized per your specifications.
