The Custom Furniture Process at Liberty Carvings
Commissioning heirloom custom furniture is different from buying it. Our custom furniture process is built around one principle: nothing goes to the shop floor until you have signed off on every detail.

Inquiry and Quote
Share your project brief, dimensions, wood preference, and any reference images or tear sheets. We come back with an itemized quote and a realistic lead time, usually within a few days. -
Samples
Before design work begins, we can send you wood and finish samples so you can see and feel the actual materials in your space. No guessing from a screen. -
Design Consultation
We work through the details together: carving profiles, joinery method, proportions, hardware. This is the heart of the bespoke furniture process and we keep refining until you are completely satisfied. -
Shop Drawings and Final Approval
We produce detailed shop drawings for your review. You come back with notes, we revise. The approved drawing is the final word on what gets built. Nothing moves to our custom hand-carved furniture studio until you sign off. -
Carving and Joinery
Hand tools throughout: chisels, gouges, mortise-and-tenon, dovetailing. As the piece takes shape we send photos and progress updates so you can follow along. -
Hand-Applied Finish
French polish, hand-rubbed wax, or distressed patina, built up in multiple layers to your specification. -
White-Glove Delivery
We coordinate delivery and installation directly to your project site.

Ordering, Shipping & Wholesale
Ordering
All prices listed are below retail — we do not maintain a showroom or sales staff. Full payment is required before any product ships. Custom items must be paid in full before order placement. Small or urgent orders not in stock can be air-freighted, with typical production times of 4–6 weeks. Larger pieces or those not in stock may require longer lead times; we can expedite for additional cost. We are flexible when handling one-of-a-kind or short-run jobs, and can adjust specifications on short notice.
Wholesale
Liberty Carvings offers a wholesale carving service for furniture makers, architects, molding shops, interior decorators, and framing shops. Contact us to discuss volume pricing — we negotiate based on quantity and other variables. With our airfreight connections we can meet tight turn-around times for continuous production; ocean freight is available for substantially lower shipping costs. We are also happy to sign exclusivity agreements to protect our customers’ material.
Shipping
All prices are FOB from Jamestown, Rhode Island, quoted in US dollars. Most items ship via FedEx Ground. Provide your town and zip code and we will send a shipping quote. International shipments can be quoted with UPS-SCS or an air freighter of your choice.

We are committed to your satisfaction — if you are not completely satisfied with your purchase we will continue to work with you until the product meets your expectations. All return shipping fees are the responsibility of the buyer.
