Frame Carving Detail

Our Oak Leaf & Acorn Frame makes an especially handsome mirror; but can also be used to accompany any type of nature-based artwork. The acorn & leaf pattern evokes the shade and sparkling sunlight of a deep forest. The frame is wholly hand fabricated of solid wood, so we recommend a natural wood color finish.

Custom Carving

We will reproduce any open-source frame or carving style at your request. We can work from the original, from close-up photos, or from detailed drawings. We can also adjust any frame to fit your specific artwork, so that the corners match gracefully and the frame will keep its proportion and balance.

Materials & Construction

Our solid wood picture or mirror frames are hand-fabricated using kiln-dried Spanish Cedar or Honduran Mahogany. Their construction consists of full hidden tenons in the corners, with a full rabbeted back to receive the artwork. Smaller frames have a hand-planed removable back of 1/4″ thick solid wood, with beveled edges in the traditional style. We can also provide a beveled 16” x 20” glass mirror (oval or rectangular), turning the frame into a handsome antique reproduction mirror.

Finishing

We provide the following finishes on our frames:

• Antique Hand-Rubbed Shellac
• Distressed Faux Gold Leaf

If you wish to have your frame gilded with true gold leaf by a gilding shop, please let us know so we can supply the frame per the gilder’s preference.

*All sizes and prices listed below are for reference only, as all our frames can be custom-made for any size you desire. The prices below are examples of common-sized frames with a 4″ molding, manufactured in Spanish Cedar, include a custom scale drawing, and exclude shipping costs. For products in Honduran Mahogany, add 50%.

*Frame sizes indicate the size of the rabbeted grooves on the back of the frame, which accepts the mirror and/or artwork.
