This is a trestle table made in the early American style, with no metal fastenings. The table disassembles completely to 2-dimensional pieces. It has a small rotating condiment tray in the center (removable). The top is made of 2 wide maple boards, hand-planed, with a center panel. The finish is clear polyurethane varnish over the natural wood colors and figures.
Faux bamboo furniture was popular in the early 20th century, and the style was used in beds, chairs, tables, stands, mirrors and all manner of furniture and ornaments. We’ve adapted the faux bamboo bed to fit in modern standard sizes, with and without a platform to support the mattress. In the photos you can see the finely detailed turnings and hand-fitted ornamentation. There are hundreds of faux bamboo furniture styles and we can reproduce any of them from photos and dimensions, one of them being our more popular ‘New Orleans’ bed style. Please contact us for any modifications, custom finishes, different wood types or custom requests.

Our Oak & Cherry Oval Frame is a faithful reproduction of a century-old “Arts and Crafts” style frame. The intricate filigree leaf design is completely hand carved in spanish cedar or solid mahogany. The opening size is approx. 6″ x 8″, suitable for a portrait, mirror, or mini-landscape. The frame can be wall-hung, or made as a free-standing table or dresser-top display with a pencil-sized stick in frame’s back. This delicate frame will enrich any room’s decor.
Custom Carving
We will reproduce any open-source frame or carving style at your request. We can work from the original, from close-up photos, or from detailed drawings. We can also adjust any frame to fit your specific artwork, so that the corners match gracefully and the frame will keep its proportion and balance.
Materials & Construction
Our solid wood picture or mirror frames are hand-fabricated using kiln-dried Spanish Cedar or Honduran Mahogany. Their construction consists of full hidden tenons in the corners, with a full rabbeted back to receive the artwork. Smaller frames have a hand-planed removable back of 1/4″ thick solid wood, with beveled edges in the traditional style. We can also provide a beveled 16” x 20” glass mirror (oval or rectangular), turning the frame into a handsome antique reproduction mirror.
Finishing
We provide the following finishes on our frames:
- Antique Hand-Rubbed Shellac
- Distressed Faux Gold Leaf
If you wish to have your frame gilded with true gold leaf by a gilding shop, please let us know so we can supply the frame per the gilder’s preference.
Sizes and prices listed below are for reference only, as all our frames can be custom-made to fit your media. The prices below are examples of common-sized frames, manufactured in Spanish Cedar, excluding shipping costs. For products in Honduran Mahogany, add 50%.

- Pharmacy-grade Mineral Oil – Food safe and semi-gloss
- Custom Finishes – contact us with your specifications
Custom Carving & Finishing
We can provide hand-carved bowls in rectangular or oval shapes, with attached handles, feet, and more to create your custom design. If you were an able seaman 200 years ago shipping out on a whaling voyage from Nantucket, or even on a clipper journey around the Horn to California, you would have carried your worldly belongings aboard ship in a sea chest. If your ship were caught in the doldrums, the sails flapping loosely for days on end while the skipper waited for wind, you might have whiled away the hours by carving a design on the front of your chest.
We are pleased to offer genuine solid-wood, wide-board, dovetailed, hand-carved sea chests in Honduran Mahogany and Spanish Cedar. They come fully assembled with handmade steel hinges, and hand-knotted cotton twine beckets (handles). Our standard design depicts the famous clipper ship “Southern Cross” under full sail, and includes a personalized banner with your name, service dates, or other lettering. Inside the chest is a small compartment with sliding lid, modeled after an original antique chest.
Custom Carving & Personalization
Sea Chests are traditional retirement gifts for Navy officers, and to celebrate this tradition we offer custom chests for military retirees. A full-width interior tray (replacing the small interior compartment) can be made into a shadow-box (we do not supply the glazing or felt interior of the tray). We can also customize the front and/or top of the chests with a unique carving design such as depictions of ships, planes, service badges, or other scenes for a unique retirement gift. Please contact us with your specialized design so we may provide you with a quote.
These handsome chests also find many uses in the modern home. For a child’s toy box, we can add spring-loaded ‘lid closers’ so that small fingers don’t get pinched. If the aromatic cedar is left unfinished, they make an excellent blanket chest.
Specifications & Shipping
Our large sea chests are 42″L x 20″W x 19″H, and our small chests are 21″L x 14″W x 11-1/2″H. The chests are finished with hand-rubbed shellac, and an antiquing glaze which darkens the deeper carved areas.
These chests are crated for shipping by economical Fedex Ground Shipping. For a quote, please correspond with your delivery zip code.

The Gloucester Fishing Schooners were perhaps the last working sailboats on the American East Coast to survive the advent of steam-powered engines. Superbly designed (even beyond the turn-of-the-century) they are known for their economy, speed, and seaworthiness. Crews would sail from the Massachusetts coast, spend several days dory-fishing for Cod and Halibut on the Grand Banks, then dash to the market with a load of fresh fish on ice.
The schooner rig allowed these boats to be sailed by a very small crew, and their ability to make port safely in the grip of a blistering Nor’easter winter storm is legendary.
This classical half-model of a Gloucester Fishing Schooner, is accurately scaled to the original design of this well-known ship. The solid-wood model (laminated with contrasting woods) has an overall length of 48″, and includes finely carved details. All our half-hull models are mounted on wide boards for wall display, and are normally supplied finished in part paint / part varnish, or can be customized per your specifications.

Our doors are standard exterior or interior dimensions (or per customer specifications), and do not contain mortises for hinges or lock hardware. We will be happy to provide all the interior and exterior doors of a kitchen, home or office suite, all carved with the same motif in appropriate sizes to suit your space. You can select the design for your panels from our wide variety of design motifs, be it a horse, floral, mountain, geometric, or other design pattern of your choice. We can work from detailed photographs or from line drawings.
Additionally, we will carve onto an existing door, cabinet, or wainscot panel. If you are having custom doors made at a woodworking mill, give us the panels after they are milled but before the doors are assembled. We will ensure your pattern is expertly carved to your exact specifications.

As a class, the American clipper ships were the largest and fastest sailing ships ever built. Although supplanted after only a few decades of evolution by steel-hulled steamships, these majestic wooden vessels will always be remembered with awe by those who love sailing and the open sea.
The “Sovereign of the Seas,” build by the Donald McKay Shipyard in New York in 1858, was an outstanding example of these famous ships. Over the years, this ship produced several speed and distance records.
This classical half-model of the Sovereign of the Seas is accurately scaled to the original design of this well-known ship. This solid-wood model (laminated with contrasting woods) has an overall length of 60″, and includes finely carved details, such as the mermaid figurehead. American pilot-schooner designer George Steers designed the yacht ‘America’ in 1851. The following year, ‘America’ soundly beat a fleet of English yachts in a challenge race, and brought home to New York the Silver Cup, which is now known as the America’s Cup.
America’s Cup challenges continued through the Victorian age, culminating in match races between the huge and very expensive J-boats. Following WWII, this race was re-established with a ship size limited to the 12-meter class, and has recently moved to the high-tech hydrofoil catamarans.
The America’s Cup continues to be one of the world’s premier sailboat racing challenges, with teams from many countries now competing. Many of the races and trials continue to be held in the waters of the open Atlantic Ocean off Jamestown and Newport, RI.
This classical half-model of the Yacht America, is accurately scaled to the original design of this well-known ship. This solid-wood model (laminated with contrasting woods) has an overall length of 42″, and includes finely carved details.
