The Story Behind This Bed

This design came to us the way the best commissions do — with a single screenshot. A client spotted a faux bamboo tallpost bed in a scene from the HBO series Succession and reached out asking if we could recreate it.

The Succession prop bed appeared in one of the show’s signature interior settings — understated old-money luxury, the kind that doesn’t announce itself. Our client saw exactly what we see in faux bamboo furniture: it carries an unmistakable pedigree without shouting about it. We worked from the screenshot, scaled it to their room dimensions, and built it in Spanish cedar with a hand-rubbed antique honey finish.

Hand-Turned Faux Bamboo Tallpost Canopy Bed

Our faux bamboo tallpost canopy bed extends the Urn-Top #029 post system to its fullest expression — tall urn-topped posts capped with a turned faux bamboo canopy frame. A grand architectural statement that works dressed with fabric or left open to show the turned work overhead.

Materials & Finish

Built from solid Spanish Cedar or Honduran Mahogany. Available in any standard finish — Spanish Cedar/Mahogany, Ebony, Natural, or Old Pine — or a custom color match. Turned canopy rails are fully structural and support sheer or blackout fabric panels.

Faux bamboo furniture swept through Europe in the late 19th century, most often built in the slighter proportions of the era. The Newport Urn-Top draws on an English antique original, re-proportioned in our Rhode Island shop to fit today’s mattresses without losing the delicate character of the period. Each post is hand-turned in solid Spanish Cedar to echo the ringed nodes of bamboo, crowned with a turned urn finial, and framed around hand-selected Tiger Maple or Birdseye Maple panels. Built to heirloom standards and offered as a complete four-poster or as a headend only — one of the faux bamboo beds we have crafted for the trade for decades.
